EDF Renewables’ onshore development pipeline in Ireland now stands at nearly 1 GW, enough to power up to 600,000 homes.

The number of projects has increased in recent months and the company plans to have up to 500 MW of onshore wind and solar projects operational by 2030.

This is in addition to its flagship 1.5 GW Codling offshore wind farm project, a joint venture between EDF Renewables and Fred Olsen Renewables off Wicklow.

Speaking at the launch of EDF Renewables’ new office at Ringsend in Dublin, Environment, Climate and Communications Minister Eamon Ryan (photo, right) said: “EDF Renouvelables is delivering a series of exciting projects, all of which support our goal of producing at least 70% of our electricity from renewable sources by 2030.

“We plan to further increase this ambition in the next Climate Action Plan.

“I am particularly pleased that EDF Renouvelables is developing major offshore solar and wind projects, which will expand our renewable energy capacity and ensure the future security of electricity supply.

“A thriving renewable energy industry will help develop the green economy and create sustainable jobs. It also means better value for electricity consumers.

Matthieu Hue, CEO of EDF Renouvelables (photo, left) said Ireland has huge potential to become a global leader in renewable energy and the company is keen to help it achieve that.

He said: “Construction on our first solar projects in Wexford and Kilkenny is well advanced, and we have announced plans for a 100 MW wind farm at Kilsallagh in County Mayo.

“Work on Codling is progressing well and we expect it to be operational in 2028. This will not only be one of the biggest investments in energy infrastructure in Ireland this decade, but when completed it will also be one of the biggest investments in energy infrastructure in Ireland. largest offshore wind farms in the country.

“Ireland’s enormous renewable energy production potential must be fully harnessed to put Ireland firmly on track to meet its net zero commitment by 2050.

The launch of the new office is part of EDF Renouvelables’ continued investment in Ireland.

The company’s Irish team has grown to 15 full-time employees, who will now be based at Portview House in Dublin 4.
