April 20 (Renewables Now) – Spanish utility group Iberdrola SA (BME: IBE) recorded net electricity generation of 22,798 GWh from renewables around the world from January to March 2021, up 13 , 3% on the year, the company said in its interim report on Monday.
Production levels in the first quarter increased significantly in Spain, Mexico and international markets, formerly known as Rest of the World, compared to the same period last year. In the United Kingdom, the United States and Brazil, total renewable energy production fell by 2.0%, 6.9% and 12.4% respectively.

In native Spain, Iberdrola generated 10,172 GWh from renewable energy, recording a 40.6% year-over-year increase in total production.
In the UK, output fell 2.0% to 2,098 GWh as increased output from offshore wind farms could not compensate for reduced onshore wind output.
In the United States, where Iberdrola operates through 81.5% owned Avangrid Inc (NYSE: AGR), first quarter production reached 5,032 GWh, down 6.9% year on year. The company’s onshore wind farms, hydropower plants and solar farms in the United States all underperformed compared to the January-March 2020 period.
The combined output of onshore wind and solar farms in Mexico jumped 86.1% to 711 GWh. In Brazil, onshore wind farms equipped with hydroelectric power stations produced a total of 3,583 GWh, down 12.4% over one year.
Finally, the international renewable energy markets, which bring together solar, onshore and offshore wind assets, collectively produced 1,202 GWh, up 39.6% compared to January-March 2020.
