Following our company’s announcement published on April 16, 2021, Ørsted has completed the acquisition of a 100% stake in the onshore wind business of Brookfield Renewable in Ireland and the UK, Brookfield Renewable Ireland (BRI) .
BRI is an onshore wind farm developer, owner and operator headquartered in Cork, Ireland. BRI has a portfolio of 389 MW in operation and under construction, 149 MW of advanced development and over 1 GW of development pipeline in Ireland and the United Kingdom. Declan Flanagan, CEO of Ørsted’s Onshore Business Unit, says:
“Once the acquisition is completed, we officially enter the European onshore market. We welcome a BRI team with strong technical capabilities and a very complementary corporate culture to ours and we look forward to developing the portfolio together. ”
The existing management team will continue to run the business, led by Kieran White, Vice President and General Manager, Ireland and UK Onshore.
Kieran says:
“Today is a really exciting day for our team. We have a proven track record in developing and building large scale renewable projects in Ireland and the UK. Joining Ørsted, a global leader in energy transformation to renewable energies, means that we are competitively positioned to drive value creation and increase renewable capacity in a market that is expected to grow in the years to come.
The information provided in this announcement does not change Ørsted’s forecast for fiscal year 2021. As previously communicated, the level of investment planned for 2021 will increase with the purchase price.
