The duo behind Kincardine, the world’s largest floating wind farm off Aberdeen, have partnered with a joint bid from ScotWind, with energy services company Wood hired to help.

Spanish companies Grupo Cobra and Edinburgh-based Flotation Energy are behind Kincardine, which was recently completed off the northeast coast.

The pair announced an offer from ScotWind for up to seven gigawatts at multiple sites in Crown Estate Scotland’s seabed rental cycle.

It was submitted by Offshore Wind Limited, the couple’s joint venture, with each project up to 1.5 GW.

A spokesperson for Offshore Wind Limited said the projects would see “billions of investments in Scotland’s offshore wind supply chain, helping to create hundreds of new and highly skilled jobs”.

Wood, headquartered in Aberdeen, is partnering with the consulting firm, in partnership with environmental and consent consultancy Royal HaskoningDHV.

In addition to Kincardine, Cobra and Flotation Energy have over the past 12 months won a bid for the 480 megawatt Morecambe project in the Crown Estate Round 4 auction in the Irish Sea, and have won the 100 MW White Cross floating project off Devon and Cornwall.

They also submitted plans for two large offshore wind farms in Ireland and confirmed a joint venture agreement for a floating project in Taiwan.

The news comes amid a wave of offers from numerous companies in recent weeks, including “The Floating Energy Allyance” (sic), Aker Offshore Wind and a consortium of the DEME group.

Over 70 offers have been submitted for ScotWind Acreage and the first awards are expected in January.
