October 5 (Renewables Now) – Kainaiwa Resources (KRI), a development entity of the Kainai / Blood tribe in the Canadian province of Alberta, is looking for companies ready to exploit the output of a wind project planned on the reserve with a capacity of between 200 MW and 300 MW.
In a statement, the tribe said it was ready to open discussions with companies interested in securing power purchase agreements (PPAs) and / or renewable energy credits from the Pe-na-koam project. , which will be located at the northern end of the Kainai / Blood Tribe Reserve.
The tribe partnered with Indigena Capital LP in 2016 to move the project forward and last year installed two new weather towers to monitor conditions on site and optimize the design of the project. The partnership with Indigena guarantees job creation and the long-term generation of stable business income.
“Indigena was able to provide the necessary equity capital to move this project forward to the point where we could attract the right industrial developer to partner with us at Pe-na-koam,†commented Chief Roy Fox.
According to the announcement, Pe-na-koam will be the first industrial-scale wind farm of its kind on a reserve in Alberta.
