The Glasgow-based company will provide support components and ancillary systems to an additional 15 turbines installed at Kype Muir by Banks Renewables, the wind power division of family-owned mining and property construction group Banks based in Durham, England. Construction is expected to begin in the coming weeks, and the extension is expected to start producing electricity by the end of next year.

Located 7.5 km south of Strathaven, the new turbines combined with the 26 existing Kype Muir turbines will together generate 155 MW of electricity per year. This will be enough to meet the needs of around 112,000 housing units, the equivalent of a city larger than Aberdeen.

Approximately 30 RJ MacLeod employees will be employed on the project, with a total of 90 jobs supported during construction. Banks Group plans to spend an additional £ 10million with local suppliers.

RJ MacLeod and Banks Renewables also worked together on the initial Kype Muir wind farm, as well as nearby Middle Muir.

A new community partnership linked to the extension program is expected to provide around £ 10million in community funding for local projects and groups over the 30-year life of the site.
