Ocean Wind and EEW paved the way for the EEW monopile manufacturing facility at the Port of Paulsboro Marine Terminal in Gloucester County, New Jersey, USA

The start of construction marks an important milestone in the delivery of the largest industrial offshore wind manufacturing facility in the United States to date, Ocean Wind said.

Construction of the facility will be completed under a Project Working Agreement (PLA) with the South Jersey Building Trades Council.

In December 2020, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced a $ 250 million investment in a new monopile manufacturing plant located at the Paulsboro Marine Terminal.

“Positioning New Jersey as a national leader in the offshore wind industry and developing our offshore wind capabilities have been key priorities for my administration from day one.” said the governor Phil murphy.

“As the largest industrial offshore wind investment in the United States to date, the Paulsboro Marine Terminal will be a major driving force for the state’s economy and will create hundreds of well-paying union jobs in southern Jersey. Offshore wind is a once-in-a-generation opportunity, and the current revolution marks a monumental step forward in propelling New Jersey’s clean energy economy for generations to come.

Construction activities include clearing and grading of the 70 acre site, reinforcement to increase the bearing capacity of the wharf to accommodate the 2,500 ton monopiles, and construction of two large buildings that will support circumferential welding, sandblasting of sand and paint. EEW has contracts with more than 30 New Jersey companies to support design, permits, site work and concrete.

When completed, the facility will manufacture monopiles to power the 1,100 MW Ocean wind farm off the south coast of New Jersey. The EEW facility will create up to 260 jobs during the first phase of construction and manufacturing.

Ocean Wind is a 1,110 MW offshore wind project from Ørsted and PSEG that will provide enough clean energy to power 500,000 homes in New Jersey.

Ørsted operates the Block Island Wind Farm, America’s first offshore wind farm, and has built the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Two Turbine Pilot Project – the first turbines to be installed in federal waters. Ørsted has secured over 2,900 megawatts of additional capacity from five projects in the North East and Mid Atlantic.
