Accenture plc ACN yesterday announced the appointment of CEO Julie Sweet as additional chairman of the board, replacing David Rowland. The change will be effective from September 1, 2021.

Rowland, who has been the company’s executive chairman since September 2019 and interim CEO from January 2019 to September 2019, will retire on the same date. Prior to becoming Interim CEO, he served as Chief Financial Officer of Accenture for six years, which was preceded by his service as Senior Vice President of Finance, also for a period of six years.

Sweet succeeded Rowland as CEO and also joined the Board of Directors in September 2019. She has been instrumental in setting the growth model for the company and in strengthening sustainability and l ‘equality.

“Julie’s appointment to the additional position of Chairman of the Board of Directors reflects her exceptional career as a senior executive for more than a decade,†said Gilles Pélisson, Lead Independent Director of the Board of Directors of Accenture.

Notably, Accenture shares have gained 34.2% in the last year, outperforming the 34.1% growth of the Zacks S&P 500 composite but underperforming the rally by 35.9% of the industry to which it belongs. .
