Global engineering consultancy PD&MS Group has bolstered its green credentials with an acquisition that is expected to create 75 new jobs in the UK.

The Aberdeen company said it bought Glasgow-based specialist engineering firm Synergie Environ Limited (SEL) for an undisclosed sum.

PD&MS hailed it as a key initiative to help its customers achieve their net zero goals, while supporting the energy transition of the North Sea oil and gas industry.

SEL’s innovative carbon emission reduction technology has earned it a series of industry awards over the years.

The company was founded in 2009 by CEO Uisdean Fraser, former waste manager at Western Isles Council.

For more than a decade, SEL has been instrumental in efforts to reduce carbon consumption and costs in all sectors, including energy, power generation and storage, and pharmaceuticals. , waste and sustainable materials, and transport.

During this period, it has supported more than 500 companies, resulting in an estimated cumulative carbon reduction impact of more than one million tonnes of CO2.

Support from Aberdeen parents will allow SEL to target larger projects

PD&MS will provide additional engineering resources, project management and site construction support, enabling the central belt company to target engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning campaigns to larger scale, as well as supporting SEL on larger turnkey opportunities in the growing cleantech sector.

The 75 new recruits are expected to join the larger group, in various locations across the UK, over the next year.

SEL will continue to be based in Glasgow and will operate within the PD&MS group. Mr. Fraser, who has worked on clean technology development for over 35 years, will continue in his role.

PD&MS was founded in 2002 and purchased by private equity firm Inflexion in 2014 in a deal worth over £ 50million.

Global presence allows PD&MS to access many markets

There are PD&MS operations in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Baku, Azerbaijan, which together employ around 800 people.

In the UK, around 500 employees are based on land and 200 overseas. The remaining 100 workers are based in the Caspian region.

A new energy boom on the horizon for the northeast

The group recently announced the award of a contract from Montrose Port Authority to reuse a 164-foot communications mast for the Seagreen offshore wind farm off the coast of Angus.
