Orsted Offshore North America and Eversource Energy, companies that are the joint development partners of the state wind project, have signed the contract with Riggs Distler & Company to build advanced foundation components for the wind turbines at the port of Coeymans in the Albany County.

The state project is expected to create 230 manufacturing and construction jobs in the Capital Region and western New York State, with about 115 jobs in the region.

“The development of the US offshore wind industry is a once-in-a-generation opportunity that offers significant economic and environmental benefits to communities across the state,†said Benjamin. “By seizing this moment, we are creating a new skilled workforce, which will be able to compete globally and attract new supply chain companies to support the offshore wind industry. and, in turn, boost New York’s green economy. “

Jobs created in the region will hire 115 skilled workers, including electricians, carpenters, masons, operating engineers, blacksmiths and laborers at the port of Coeymans.

The jobs will be covered by a collective project agreement with the local union.

At least 100 additional jobs will be created at Ljungstrom LLC in Allegany County in western New York, where the steel components for the turbines will be manufactured and delivered to the Port of Coeymans.

Offshore wind projects are an important component of the state’s comprehensive plan to generate clean and sustainable energy in the years to come.

“Offshore wind is fast becoming a major source of affordable renewable energy here in New York State and as a national leader in clean energy policy, the Empire State is fast becoming the hub of the growing US offshore energy industry, â€Doreen Harris, president and CEO of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, told crowds gathered under a tent at the port of Coeymans on Friday.

The state has five offshore wind projects under development and aims to generate 9,000 megawatts of power by 2035, Benjamin said.

Clean, renewable energy will help tackle the impacts of climate change and needs the support of all walks of life, Benjamin said.

The wind power industry will have impacts beyond the provision of sustainable green power, Harris noted.

Wind turbine components built at the Port of Coeymans will be shipped along the Hudson River to the Sunrise Wind offshore wind farm site, approximately 30 miles east of Montauk Point on Long Island.
